Getting to Campus

Lindbergh Field is San Diego's primary airport and UCSD can be reached from Lindbergh Field by taxi (approximately $25.00), San Diego City Transit, or Airport Shuttle.

San Diego City Transit:
If traveling by San Diego City Transit from the airport take bus route #922, ask for a transfer when boarding (all transfers are free). Route #922 travels from the airport and proceeds to downtown San Diego, where you can transfer to any one of several routes connecting with UCSD: #30, #50, #34, #41, #150 (limited times). All express routes are $2.00 and local routes $1.75. Exact change is required. All bus schedules are listed on the UCSD Transportation and Parking Services web site: http://parking.ucsd.edu.

Airport Shuttle Service*:
There are also several airport-to-door shuttle services with average cost of $11.00-$15.00 per person one-way (prices subject to change).

This is the closest stop to UCSD and requires a transfer to North County Transit bus #301 ($1.50) providing service directly to campus. Check the bus schedule for the Lomas Santa Fe and Highway 101 stop, which is a half-block walk from the station. Call 1-800-USA-RAIL to make your reservations for Amtrak.

Student Health:

The Graduate Student Health Insurance Plan (GSHIP) is a comprehensive plan affiliated with a preferred provider network requiring written referral from the Student Health Service staff. Spring GSHIP coverage continues automatically through the summer quarter. Limited information on separate health insurance plans for dependents is available at the Student Health Service. The State of California, also offers dependent care insurance. See Healthy Families under Child Care Resources in this brochure.

For first-year students arriving on campus prior to the start of the academic calendar year, it is highly recommended that you review your current insurance status and purchase short-term coverage if necessary. GSHIP will begin on the first day of orientation (9/22/03), which is the first day pharmacy students are required to be on campus.

Students already covered by health insurance, which was in effect prior to acceptance as a pharmacy student at UCSD, may qualify for a waiver of the mandatory GSHIP if benefits are equal to or better than GSHIP benefits. A listing of required documents is available from the Student Insurance Office at SHS, on Mandeville Lane and west of the Library Walk.
