Jan Hirsch

Dr. Jan Hirsch is Assistant Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, at the University of California, San Diego. She received her B.S. in Pharmacy and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Pharmacy Administration from the University of South Carolina, College of Pharmacy. She is responsible for coursework in Health Policy, Pharmacoeconomics and Study Design and received an Excellence in Teaching Award in May 2004. She began her career at the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Administration from 1986-1990. From 1990 through 1993, she was Assistant and then Associate Director of Pharmacoeconomic Research for Glaxo, Inc in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. She then became Head of International Pharmacoeconomic Research for Glaxo Group Research in Greenford, United Kingdom until 1994. In 1994, she started her own pharmacoeconomic consulting firm where she managed collaborative research between universities, managed care organizations, physician groups and major pharmaceutical companies. In 1997, she joined Allergan as Director of Global Pharmacoeconomic Strategy and Research where she established the company's first global pharmacoeconomic research group. Prior to joining the UCSD faculty, she served as Director of Clinical Research at Prescription Solutions where she was responsible for creating a prospective research department to examine the real-world value of pharmaceuticals within a managed care setting.

Research Interests

Her research interests are focused in the areas of pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research as applied to demonstrate the value of pharmacy services and pharmaceuticals.
