Clinical Summary: Cardiovascular Surgery, Critical Care, Pulmonary Hypertension

Dr. Jahansouz moved to the UCSD Medical Center in 1989 where he practiced primarily in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit until 2002. Dr. Jahansouz’ career emphasis changed when he helped to implement a new pharmacy computer system in 2002 and later, the computerized provider order entry system at UCSD Medical Center. Since 2006, his clinical practice has been at the UCSD Thornton Hospital’s intensive care unit. His area of interest has been cardiovascular surgery and pulmonary critical care medicine.

Academic Achievements

Education: B.S. (1981) Doctor of Pharmacy (1987) University of Minnesota; Cardiothoracic Transplantation and Critical Care (1987) Cardiovascular Pharmacist (1988) University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics.

Awards and Honors: Excellence in Teaching Award, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (2005); Excellence in Teaching Award, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (2006).

Leadership Experience: Implemented a new pharmacy computer system at UCSD medical center (2002). Implemented computerized provider order entry system at UCSD medical center (2005).

Teaching

  • Coordinator for the pharmaceutical calculations portion of the Pharmacy Practice series (SPPS 201 and SPPS 202).
  • Conference chair for Therapeutics series (SPPS 212A, 212B, 212C).
  • Pharmacy practice (SPPS 203).
  • Therapeutics course (SPPS 212A).
  • Course coordinator for the acute care portion of advance pharmacy practice experience fourth year (SPPS 400A, SPPS 400B)
  • Serves as co-preceptor of the Surgery and Critical Care rotations at Thornton hospital for UCSD students.
  • Co-chair, and lecturer of elective course in critical care medicine (SPPS 274).
  • Clinical preceptor to the 4th year student pharmacists from the UCSF School of Pharmacy and UCSD PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents.
