Dr. Farivar Jahansouz is a Health Sciences Associate Clinical Professor at the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) where he has been teaching since 2004. He coordinates the pharmaceutical calculations portion of the first-year Pharmacy Practice series and is the conference chair for the third-year Therapeutics series. Dr. Jahansouz also lectures in the pharmacy practice and therapeutics courses and is the course coordinator for the acute care, advance pharmacy practice experience during the fourth year. Additionally, he has been a clinical preceptor to 4th-year student pharmacists from the UCSF School of Pharmacy and SSPPS, and an advisor and preceptor to numerous UCSD PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents.

Dr. Jahansouz earned his pharmacy degrees at the University of Minnesota, receiving his Bachelor of Science in 1981 and Doctor of Pharmacy in 1987. Further training included cardiothoracic transplantation and critical care at University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics in 1987 and1988 as the cardiovascular pharmacist. He moved to the UCSD Medical Center in 1989 where he practiced primarily in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit until 2002. Dr. Jahansouz’ career emphasis changed when he helped to implement a new pharmacy computer system in 2002 and later, the computerized provider order entry system at UCSD Medical Center. Since 2006, his clinical practice has been at the UCSD Thornton Hospital’s intensive care unit.

Area of Interest

His clinical practice and area of interest is in cardiothoracic surgery and critical care medicine.
