Dr. Philip Anderson is Health Sciences Clinical Professor of Pharmacy at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. He chairs the Drug Information course, co-chairs Pharmacy Informatics, and lectures in Pharmacy Practice. He is also the School’s delegate to the United States Pharmacopoeal Convention for the 2010-2015 term. Volunteer duties include attending pharmacist at the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic in Pacific Beach and the judging at the Greater San Diego Science and Engineering Fair.

Dr. Anderson earned his Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree from the University of California San Francisco in 1971. He is a Fellow of both the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists. In 1994 he was awarded a J. William Fulbright Scholarship in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Chile. He was honored in 1993 with the Pharmacist of the Year award from the California Society of Hospital Pharmacists and in 1989 with the Award for Achievement in the Professional Practice of Hospital Pharmacy, presented by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation. He was also honored as a distinguished thirty-year graduate by the University of California San Francisco in 2001.

Dr. Anderson was the founding Director of the Drug Information Service at UCSD Medical Center Department of Pharmacy until his retirement in 2007. His research interests involve the use of medications in nursing mothers. Dr. Anderson is the author of the National Library of Medicine’s LactMed database, which provides information on the use of medications in nursing mothers. He is also a charter member of the editorial board for Breastfeeding Medicine.
