Dr. Philip Anderson is Director of the  Drug Information Service at the University of California San Diego Medical Center and a Clinical Professor of Pharmacy and Pharmacology.

 

Dr. Anderson earned his Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree from the University of California San Francisco in 1971. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists and the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists. In 1994 he was a J. William Fulbright Scholarship in the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Chile. He was honored in 1993 with the Pharmacist of the Year award from the California Society of Hospital Pharmacists and in 1989 with the Award for Achievement in the Professional Practice of Hospital Pharmacy, presented by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation for the Handbook of Clinical Drug Data, 6th Edition.

 

Dr. Anderson's clinical practice involves the operation of the Drug Information Service which answers queries from health professionals concerning         medications their patients are taking and from mothers concerning medications they are taking while they are nursing their infants. His research interests involve the use of medications in nursing mothers. He is Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy Clinical Resource Management Committee and is the staff to the UCSD Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

 

Dr. Anderson is a co-editor of the book Handbook of Clinical Drug Data, which is widely used by pharmacy students and pharmacy and medical practitioners around the country. It has been translated into several foreign languages for use around the world.
