Dr. Jan Hirsch is a Lecturer in Pharmacy in the UCSD School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences where she is responsible for coursework in Health Policy, Pharmacoeconomics, Study Design and Technology Management. Dr. Hirsch received her BS in Pharmacy in 1980, her MS in Pharmacy Administration in 1983 and her Ph.D. in Pharmacy Administration in 1986 from the University of South Carolina, College of Pharmacy. During her graduate studies, she also worked as a pharmacist in several community pharmacy settings and as a teaching and research assistant at the College of Pharmacy. From 1986-1990, she was an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Administration at the University of North Carolina School of Pharmacy. From 1990 through 1993, she was Assistant and then Associate Director of Pharmacoeconomic Research for Glaxo, Inc in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. She then became Head of International Pharmacoeconomic Research for Glaxo Group Research in Greenford, United Kingdom until 1994. In 1994, she started her own pharmacoeconomic consulting group where she managed collaborative research between universities, managed care organizations, physician groups and major pharmaceutical companies. In 1997, she joined Allergan as Director of Global Pharmacoeconomic Strategy and Research. Most recently she served as Director of Clinical Research at Prescription Solutions where she was responsible for establishing a prospective research function to examine the value of pharmaceuticals within a managed care setting.
