Thomas N. Tozer

 

Dr. Thomas Tozer received his B.S. in Pharmacy and Pharm.D. in 1959 and his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 1963 from the University of California, San Francisco. From 1963-1965 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Laboratory of Clinical Pharmacology, National Heart Institute at the National Institutes of Health. He joined the faculty of the UCSF School of Pharmacy in 1965 as an assistant professor and became a Professor of Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 1981. In 1991, he became a Professor Emeritus. Although officially retired from his academic position at UCSF, Dr. Tozer has continued an active role in graduate student education and research at UCSF and consulting with numerous biotechnology companies and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. 

 

Dr. Tozer is the recipient of numerous awards including the Professor of the Year Award from the UCSF School of Pharmacy Class of 1983 and the Long Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching from the UCSF School of Pharmacy Class of 1986. He was elected to fellowship in the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists in 1997, received the Team Excellence Award from the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1999 and was the recipient of the 2000 Meritorious Manuscript Award from the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. 

 

Dr. Tozer's current research interests are in the area of drug bioequivalence and the kinetics of protein drugs.

 

Dr. Tozer is co-editor with Dr. Malcolm Rowland of the leading textbook in pharmacokinetics entitled Clinical Pharmacokinetics: Concepts and Applications. He has also authored numerous chapters on various topics in pharmacokinetics for a variety of books.
