Sally Ride Science Academy

SSPPS partnered with Sally Ride Science (SRS) Academy to deliver the weeklong course "A Dose of Pharmacreations" twice during the month of July to students in grades 4-6. This collaboration was made possible through the Department of Education and Community Outreach (ECO), UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies. Kristine Schneid, SRS course developer and instructor, worked with SSPPS faculty, staff, and students to create and co-teach engaging, hands-on activities that highlighted the profession of pharmacy and the important role of pharmacists within the healthcare team. Throughout the week, students developed valuable STEAM skills and gained foundational knowledge, all while being inspired by pharmacists Drs. Troy Drysdale and Tim Bassell, and PharmD/PhD student Howard Phang. Notable highlights were activities with inhaler and epipen trainers, Q&A sessions with pharmacists and pharmacy students, the Spiderman therapeutic decision-making exercise, the SRS Pharmacy Academy White Coat Ceremony, Dr. Rabia Atayee's incredible interactive videos, and the creation of customized medicines for superhero, monster, and alien patients.
