CSHP Highlights
by Lauren Reynolds (P3), CSHP-UCSD Secretary/Treasurer/Public Relations Chair
This Fall Quarter, CSHP-UCSD held multiple events including lunchtime talks, workshops, and many more! Here are some highlights:
On October 13, Professional Services Chair Elizabeth Haddad (P3) collaborated with Industry Pharmacists Organization, to host the virtual Residency and Fellowship Showcase. This year, 44 programs and 77 SSPPS and UOP students were in attendance! The evening started with a keynote talk by Dr. Charles Daniels, Chief Pharmacy Officer at UC San Diego Health and Associate Dean of Professional Practice at SSPPS. P2-P4 students were then able to visit up to 11 residency and/or fellowship programs. Program Directors and current residents/fellows were eager to share the highlights of their programs and answer any questions. Special thanks to the programs and students for participating, and to Dr. Lorentz for her help in planning the event.
Educational Services Chair Montana Panec (P3) organized the Code Blue Workshop held on October 19. The workshop was led by Dr. Juan Toledo, a clinical pharmacist specialist who practices at UC San Diego Health Hillcrest, and his two critical care residents, Drs. Camille Troyer and Kirsten Miller. Their presentation covered what a code blue is, what medications are used, and pharmacists’ role during such an event. The students then separated into groups to see the code blue box medications and practice preparing bicarbonate and epinephrine syringes. We thank Drs. Toledo, Troyer, and Miller for offering us this hands-on workshop.
The Clinical Skills Competition took place in early October. Three teams competed, with Michael Ley and Kaitlin McFarland (both P4s, pictured on the right) winning and moving on to represent SSPPS in the Clinical Skills Competition at CSHP Seminar.
Kaitlin McFarland also received a 2022 Student Leadership Award, and SSPPS received a Student Chapter Community Service Project Award for Poison Prevention.

On November 11th, we hosted the Skaggs Reception at CSHP Seminar. We were thrilled to gather with our alumni, faculty, residents, students, and colleagues from other schools of pharmacy, many of whom are conducting groundbreaking research. Watch the video above for a brief slideshow of the Skaggs Reception.
