National Patient Counseling Competition
by Ryan Ha (P3), APhA-ASP/CPhA President 2022-2023
On October 31st, 2022, Cheng-Yu Wang (P3) was recognized at APhA-ASP/CPhA’s 2nd Fall GBM for winning first place in APhA-ASP’s National Patient Counseling Competition (NPCC) back on March 19th, 2022 at the APhA 2022 Annual Meeting & Exposition in San Antonio, TX. It was the first time a student from Skaggs won the entire national competition. Our chapter had the honor of hosting Eric Dobberpuhl, Pharm.D., a former APhA-ASP National Member-at-large. Dr. Dobberpuhl came to Skaggs to award Cheng-Yu a congratulatory plaque for her prestigious accomplishment. Additionally, Dean Brookie Best, Pharm.D., MAS and chapter advisor Nathan Painter, Pharm.D., CDCES accepted a trophy awarded to Skaggs for being the winner’s school.
Winning the NPCC is no easy feat by any means. This year, over 130 pharmacy schools around the nation were represented at the NPCC. Each school held a local, school-wide patient counseling competition in which their winner was sent to the APhA 2022 Annual Meeting & Exposition to compete in the annual NPCC. There were two preliminary rounds where all representatives competed against each other. Cheng-Yu became one of the Top Ten Finalists and earned the privilege of moving forward to the Final Round. It was there that Cheng-Yu ultimately emerged victorious.
Please join us in congratulating Cheng-Yu for her outstanding accomplishment!
