This Fall Quarter, CSHP-UCSD held multiple events for our members, including lunchtime talks, workshops, and many more! Here are some highlights:
CSHP Seminar
CSHP Seminar, held in Long Beach this year, is an annual conference that provides resources to pharmacy students such as networking opportunities, residency showcases, and more! Our student chapter participated in the House of Delegates Meeting and competed in the clinical skills competition and quiz bowl. We also walked away with several awards including two Community Service Awards for our poison prevention and organ donation awareness outreaches and a Student Leadership Award granted to our immediate past president, Rinoj Mathew. Be sure to mark your calendars for CSHP Seminar 2024 next October in Palm Springs!
Residency and Fellowship Showcase
Our Professional Affairs Chair, Caitlin Reyes (P3, Class of 2025), collaborated with Industry Pharmacists Organization (IPhO) to host the fourth Annual Residency and Fellowship Showcase on October 5. This year, 31 programs and 64 students attended! The virtual event started off with a keynote talk by Dr. Charles Daniels, Chief Pharmacy Officer at UC San Diego Health and Associate Dean of Professional Practice at UC San Diego SSPPS. After, P1-P4 students were able to visit residency and/or fellowship programs based on their preferences. Some of the programs were UC San Diego Acute/Ambulatory Care, UCSF Fellowship, May Clinic, and Johns Hopkins. Thank you to the programs and students for participating!
Code Blue Workshop
On October 26, our Educational Services Chair, Michelle Tran (P3, Class of 2025), organized a Code Blue Workshop. The workshop was led by Dr. Juan Toledo, a clinical pharmacist at UC San Diego Health in Hillcrest, and his two critical care residents, Dr. Stefani Lucarelli (SSPPS Alumna, Class of 2022) and Dr. Natalie Leung. The workshop began with a presentation from Dr. Toledo discussing the collaborative role that pharmacists have in code blue situations, common medications used, and resources that pharmacists can quickly reference. The 50 students in attendance were able to interact with handling equipment and medications in the code blue box. Special thanks to Drs. Toledo, Leung, and Lucarelli for offering us this hands-on workshop!
