On January 7th, 2023, the UC San Diego SSPPS Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy (AMCP) Student Chapter hosted its annual Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Local Competition. One of the crucial jobs of the P&T committee is improving evidence-driven decision making to improve patient care and cost containment. This year, we had the honor of having four professional judges: Dr. Kathy Nguyen, Dr. Christa Laosantos, Dr. Eric Borrelli, and Dr. Zaid Yousif, who are all experienced in the field of pharmacoeconomics and managed care. The written submissions and oral presentations prepared by the student teams were outstanding. After much deliberation between the judges, the winning team which included Sherman Wong, Megan Nguyen, Anthony Mba, and Paul Simental (all P2s) was selected to compete and represent UCSD SSPPS in the National AMCP P&T Competition.
On February 15th, 2023, our team was selected as one of 15 semifinalists for the National AMCP P&T Competition. The next round will determine the final five teams to attend the National AMCP meeting in 2023.
