For all applicants who have attended a college or university outside of the United States and who wish to use classes taken at that college or university toward meeting pre-requisite requirements, the following steps must be performed before you submit an application. All required materials must be received by August 31. There will be no exceptions to this policy.
- The applicant must e-mail the Admissions Office at firstname.lastname@example.org with the name of the college or university (including the city and country of the college or university) attended outside of the United States. The Admissions Office will then determine if UC San Diego, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences will accept a transcript from the university or college in question. A response will be returned by e-mail usually within one week. Upon notification that the school will be accepted, the applicant must send the following documents:
- Copies of the transcript(s) in the original language and a translation in English.
- A World Education Services (WES) credential evaluation and course-by-course evaluation must be submitted. The School accepts evaluations only from World Education Services (WES). Evaluations from other services are not accepted. To request an evaluation, or for questions about procedures, required documents, or costs, contact World Education Services. WES assessments are subject to review and approval by the Admissions Office. This includes, but is not limited to, decisions regarding acceptable credit, prerequisite fulfillment, GPA calculations, degree equivalencies, minimum passing grade levels, etc. The School is not obligated to accept the conclusion of the evaluation service.
English courses taken outside of the United States will not be accepted toward meeting the English requirements unless English is the official language of the university or college attended and all instruction (except for foreign language courses) is conducted in English.
If the required documents are not available then no credit toward meeting the pre-requisites will be provided. There are no exceptions to this policy.
Even if selected coursework is accepted by the School as meeting requirements, applicants must enroll full-time for at least one year at a four-year college or university in the United States prior to application. A four-year college or university is one that is accredited to award bachelor's degrees. Enrollment in a community college does not satisfy this requirement.
Once all of the documents are received, the admissions office will provide an evaluation of the coursework that can be applied to the pre-requisite requirements for admission. If all pre-requisite requirements are met by the summer prior to the anticipated enrollment, a formal application may be submitted through PharmCAS and by completion of the UCSD supplemental application.
If the applicant is accepted for admission, official copies of the transcripts and translations, bearing the official seal of the institution, must be provided by the institution directly to the Admissions Office in a sealed envelope. If documents are not received prior to the start of orientation, the applicant will not be allowed to matriculate and the acceptance will be rescinded. There will be no exceptions or waiver of this requirement.
You must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident at the time of application.
Applications received from applicants with foreign transcripts who have not precisely followed these instructions will not be considered.
