Pre-Pharmacy Programs

K-12 Programs

Held during the summer, the Research Methodology Training Laboratory (RMTL) Academy program is designed to inspire economically or educationally disadvantaged students, including first-generation and low-income individuals, to pursue careers in the biomedical and health sciences. Middle and high school students participate in hands-on labs experiments, hear from guest speakers who have similar backgrounds, learn how to apply to college, tour our campus and more.

The program is led by former program participant and current Faculty Member Eduardo Fricovsky, Pharm.D. , and Assistant Program Director Dominic Cooper, MAOL, CCM.

This unique program blends outdoor fieldwork with hands-on laboratory experience and is open to students from Mater Dei High School in Chula Vista thanks to generous support from the ALSAM Foundation. The summer program has increased students’ scientific self-efficacy and self-identification as a scientist.

High school students from Mater Dei High School in Chula Vista are eligible to participate in summer internships at our school thanks to generous support from the ALSAM Foundation. Students work in state-of-the-art research labs and present their work at STEAM Poster Night at Mater Dei High School in the fall.

Undergraduate

The PUMP program is open to any student who applies to our pharmacy school and aims to mentor future pharmacists who are committed to serving communities with health disparities. Applicants participate in 3-4 virtual workshops on topics such as writing a personal statement, requesting letters of recommendation, how to complete the PharmCAS application and more. An invitation to participate is provided following submission of a PharmCAS application to our school.

The URiM conference is organized by UC San Diego students and aims to provide undergraduate pre-health students, particularly those who are first-generation and lower socioeconomic status, with information, tools and opportunities as they pursue healthcare careers. The conference is hosted at our school and also features our faculty and students speaking about careers in pharmacy.
