Asa Gustafsson, Phd, Associate Professor in the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has been awarded the 2014 Outstanding Investigator Award by the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR). Dr. Gustafsson's work focuses on understanding the molecular pathways that regulate the life and death of cardiac myocytes.
Gustafsson has also received an Established Investigator Award from the American Heart Association. The award supports mid-career investigators who demonstrate "unusual promise and an established record of accomplishments; and who have demonstrated commitment to cardiovascular or cerebrovascular sciene." It comes with a $400,000 grant over five years.
Palmer Taylor, PhD, Dean of the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Associate Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences has been awarded the rank of "Chevalier dans l'Ordre national de la Legion d'Honneur" (Knight in the National Order of the Legion of Honor) by the President of France, Francois Hollande.
The Legion of Honor, established after the French Revolution, is France's highest national decoration, honoring eminent personalities, both French and foreign, who have contributed significantly to the development of relationships with France. Taylor was recognized for his commitment to international research and strong, productive collaborations between French and American Scientist.
