Our Mission

The UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Executive Committee advances diversity through the implementation of equitable and inclusive practices. The committee supports faculty, staff and students in the crafting and dissemination of strategies that provide for an inclusive climate, embrace diversity and promote a culture of accountability with respect for all. Finally, the committee partners with campus, professional and community organizations to promote, improve and sustain excellence in EDI practices.

The JEDI committee is open to all faculty, staff and students and does not consider race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and/or other protected categories as part of the application and selection process.

Our two committees—one representing the school and other representing staff—work closely together to advance equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives. All faculty, students and staff are welcome to join the committees; the committees do not consider race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and/or other protected categories as part of the application and selection process.

Summer STEM Program

Our numerous educational programs aim to inspire a passion for STEM in middle, high school and undergraduate students, including those from community colleges, who are economically and/or educationally disadvantaged. The programs are open to all students and do not consider race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and/or other protected categories as part of the application and selection process.

Through the UC San Diego Student-Run Free Clinic Project, one of the largest student-led free clinics in the nation, free health care screenings at community events and more, we aim to deliver health care to populations with low Healthy Places Indexes® or Social Vulnerability Indexes. As the only pharmacy school in San Diego, we recognize our students provide critical health care  needs for our community.

LGBT PhAM Rainbow Pin Ceremony

In order to thrive in an environment, you need to feel like you belong. Through campus-wide affinity groups, Rainbow Pin Ceremonies, anti-bias education for faculty, students and staff and more, we aim to create a culture where everyone feels valued, celebrated and treated with respect. These events are open to all faculty, students and staff.

Our unique Health Equity and Antiracism Training (HEART) curriculum is embedded within our pharmacy school’s required courses, with topics including systemic racism, microaggressions, redlining, social determinants of health, LGBTQIA+ health and more. Additionally, students can select electives focused on racism and health, medical Spanish and more. Together, the curriculum aims to train future pharmacists who can effectively care for patients of all identities and backgrounds.

Adrian JinichJacinda (JAM) Abdul-Mutakabbi

We actively recruit stellar faculty who are focused on reducing health care inequities and will transform our curricular offerings, research contributions and mentoring opportunities for our students. Two such faculty members—Jacinda Abdul-Mutakabbir, Pharm.D., M.P.H., and Adrian Jinich, Ph.D.—were recently recruited through the UC Advancing Faculty Diversity Program  and UC San Diego FIRST  initiatives.
